The First ACTIVE Summer School preceded the European Conference on Machine Learning "European Conference on Machine Learning and Principles and Practice of Knowledge Discovery in Databases - ECML PKDD 2009".
Organised by ACTIVE FP7 Integrated Project and hosted by the Jozef Stefan Institute, the summer school brought together students, scholars and researchers from industry, to share the recent developments, solutions and technologies from the areas of::
*Semantic technologies and content,
*Social software and Web 2.0,
*Adaptive and context-aware systems,
*Context mining,
*Process mining,
*Knowledge filters,
*Stream mining,
*Anomaly detection,
*Meta learning,
*Forecasting, and
*Social network analysis.
During the three day summer school attendants had the opportunity to listen to very distinguished invited speakers: Paul Warren (BT), Marko Grobelnik (JSI), Tobias Bürger (STI), Igor Dolinšek (HERMES SoftLab), Rayid Ghani (Accenture), Michael Witbrock (Cycorp), Lise Getoor (University of Maryland), Neel Sundaresan (eBay), Pat Moore (Bloomberg), Paolo Paganelli (Insiel), Denny Vrandečić (KIT), Marcel Tilly (Microsoft), Ian Mulvany (Nature).
