WP8, Case Study: Accenture

WP8 aims to investigate and verify how advanced knowledge technologies exploiting Web 2.0 techniques( such as tagging, collaborative content creation), combined with the formal structure of an enterprise using task models and user contexts can improve the productivity of IT and business consultants.

This case study will build on work already going on at Accenture on augmenting a traditional knowledge base of corporate documents with web 2.0 style tagging and social bookmarking as well as providing users a richer, more interactive application for searching and browsing using RIA technology.

The goal of this case study is to take technologies that IT and business consultants are using in their personal lives (such as Flickr and del.ico.us) but that are not present in corporate environments, and adapt them to the needs of an enterprise. This will be done by combining the formal ontologies and tasks which consultants at Accenture engage in regularly with the bottom-up ontologies and “latent” tasks discovered by analyzing the data generated by users interacting with the system.

The applications built as a result of ACTIVE will be released globally , initially to several thousands consultants in Accenture, with plans to expand to the entire 150,000 people in Accenture using the internal knowledge base of corporate documents. This will allow us to measure and verify the utility of these applications as well as get feedback from the users which will provide important input for the further shaping of ACTIVE in subsequent phases.

Another outcome of the case study will be demonstrations, presentations and white papers to support dissemination activities within the project and also to show to global clients of Accenture at internal events.
