WP5 aims to create an environment within which the knowledge worker has seamless access to an integrated set of context-aware knowledge tools. This work package will create a set of software tools to be used by knowledge workers. These tools (referred as ACTIVE Knowledge Workspace) will integrate technology and tools developed in research work packages WP1-WP3 will be used in enterprise environment by all case studies in work packages WP8-WP10.
To ensure successful realization of the ACTIVE Knowledge Workspace it is necessary that this work package initially creates a solid software architecture that will define how to structure the tools developed in the research workpackages (WP1-3) to fit into the ACTIVE Knowledge Workspace and how to extend the existing off-the-shelf personal productivity and existing knowledge management tools of case study partners to make use of ACTIVE features. In line with this architecture WP5 will focus on the construction of the ACTIVE Knowledge Workspace software components providing adequate user interface, integration with desktop applications and enterprise-wide management of user profiles, contexts, processes etc. On the other hand, WP6 will focus on extending various software tools like personal productivity tools and knowledge management tools used in enterprises to fit into the ACTIVE Knowledge Workspace.
