ACTIVE is a European FP7 project which ended 28/02/2011. ACTIVE has worked on increasing the productivity of knowledge workers. The goal was to convert tacit and unshared knowledge – the "hidden intelligence" of enterprises – into transferable, interoperable and actionable knowledge. More specifically, ACTIVE aimed at
This has been achieved with three main technology themes:
ACTIVE employs two software platforms: the ACTIVE Knowledge Workspace (AKWS) and the Semantic MediaWiki (SMW). In addition, an Outlook plug-in, Contextify, has been developed to help manage your emails.
ACTIVE Knowledge Workspace Software (AKWS)
The AKWS is a powerful Enterprise 2.0 collaboration tool which turns your Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office 2007 or 2010 environment into a context-aware collaboration platform. It can be freely downloaded for non-commercial use. Individual technology components are also available for integration into knowledge management systems.
Semantic MediaWiki (SMW) extensions
In ACTIVE, the SMW has been extended, including to offer sophisticated presentational features. Many of these features are freely available under open-source licences.
Contextify makes managing emails more efficient, by displaying the contexts of those emails and all related information, e.g., information about the sender and recent email conversations with the sender, and exchanged attachments and links.
For more information about ACTIVE tools, technologies and methodologies, see the ACTIVE portfolio brochure.
ACTIVE has documented its findings from research and experimentation in a number of Deliverables, most of which are available for public download.
Conference papers and journals
ACTIVE partners have published more than 50 papers at conferences and workshops, and contributed 16 articles to journals.
Learning community / training portal
ACTIVE has created high quality training content and self-learning modules, available through different video materials with synchronised slides, related to ACTIVE.
